Touched by the smoke and flame, this one-of-a-kind hand sculpted vessel captures movement and flowing landscape and was fired in an open-air sawdust and wood kiln with a combination of organic materials and metals that flash and fume creating the beautiful coloring and dramatic surface and celestial-like markings. The surfaces change with rotation of each piece, revealing worlds within worlds, as the flame and materials mark each side of the vessel differently. The volatile process can result in small cracks or fissures, which are then healed with gold to preserve and repair the piece making it stronger using a technique known as kintsugi. The interior of this piece is spectacular with markings ranging in color from peaches, pinks, greys, reds, blues and blacks, making a lovely centerpiece on a low table or console.
