Vessels & Artistic Voice - Handbuilding Workshop - January 24
Saturday, January 24
11:00am-2:00pm
3hrs
Join me in the studio to create handmade ceramic vessels, decorative forms, dishes, or functional tableware. We will begin with a series of exploratory clay exercises designed to tap into your individual creative flow and access your artistic voice. Through structured play and shared inspiration, participants are encouraged to release inhibition, loosen perfectionism, and allow the material and our own intuitive sense of form and sculpting to guide the hands.
Throughout the workshop, I will integrate technique, skill-building, and process, introducing core handbuilding methods including pinching, slab construction, and coiling. From there, you will work with focus and intention, supported by individual guidance, to create up to three vessels of your choosing.
This approach allows ideas to emerge organically, combining inspiration with technical grounding to produce a cohesive selection of finished pieces. A variety of examples, forms, and templates will be available for reference. Before leaving you’ll have a chance to add texture, surface decoration, or underglaze color, and select a glaze to complete your work. After the workshop, I’ll fire and glaze your pieces and have them ready to be picked up in a few weeks or shipped to you for a $10 shipping fee.
All experiences welcome.
For those new to clay, this workshop offers a welcoming and exciting way to dive into the material and gain knowledge of the fundamentals of working with clay. For experienced makers, the exploratory methods and creative structured play provide opportunities for surprise, renewed inspiration, and stimulate the discovery of new forms and ideas.
Located at my private studio in Midtown Kingston at 77 Cornell Street, Ste 318, Kingston, NY 12401.
